EL/Civics Online is designed for teachers and volunteers of adult education English as a Second Language classes. Generally, these teachers teach free or low-cost classes to adult students over the age of 16 who need English to get better jobs, communicate with their peers, become more involved in their communities, or work toward U.S. citizenship.
EL/Civics Online is appropriate for adult education ESL teachers who wish to incorporate more EL/Civics into their ESL classes. It teaches integration of EL/Civics content and ESL. It is not intended as a basic ESL teacher training course. People new to teaching ESL should seek additional professional development.
The lessons developed in the courses are best for high beginning, intermediate and advanced students according to the National Reporting System levels (www.nrsweb.org). The content may be too difficult for beginning ESL students.
